My little man's favorite part of cooking cookies? Whirling the ingredients. In case you aren't sure what this means, whirling = stirring in his dialect. Somehow we managed to whirl and bake the cookies, clean the kitchen, and eat a couple of the yummy treats without spilling on our clothes - though the risk was totally worth it! This particular recipe is a family favorite - banana, oatmeal, chocolate chip - and have never let me down. I added extra banana this time so the cooking time was a bit longer than usual. All in all, they were the perfect treat for a long weekend.

Banana Muffins

Banana Poppyseed Muffin

Banana muffin, with a banana topping, and a side of bananas - because you can never have too much banana.

It's no joke that each pregnancy is unique and I'm quickly believing that girls are more difficult than boys - from day 1. The last couple months consisted of long days in bed, binge eating crackers, rice, and plain pasta, chugging water, and being repulsed by everything else. Apparently my little girl did not want vegetables or exercise to be a part of the first few months of her development and let me know in no uncertain terms. With the first trimester firmly behind me, I am almost back in working order - though my cardio has a ways to go. I am using my newfound energy to go through gobs of email and learn the ins and outs of the stove and oven in our new place (yes, we decided to move before knowing I was preggers and successfully planned our move to begin right as the nausea and fatigue took my body by storm). ...

Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I love carbs, especially when they come in the form of really good bread. You know, a fresh baked baguette with thinly sliced radishes, a smattering of butter, and a sprinkle of sea salt. Combine that with a glass of Sancerre and you have a little bite of Katie dessert heaven....

The Only Banana Bread Recipe You’ll Ever Need

Banana Bread Slices 2 You know that dish (or dishes) that takes you back to your childhood. I mean, the minute you see the recipe, get a whiff of its familiar scent, or take that first bite, you are instantly transported back to eight years old and life suddenly gets just a little bit simpler? I have several of these dishes, of course, but this banana bread is one of my favorites....

Peach Rhubarb Smoothie

Peach Rhubarb Smoothie 3 In honor of Mother’s Day, this week's focus will be where it should: on all things mom. From the moment she wakes up to the second her head hits the pillow that night, she will be the main focus, the star of the show. Start mom's day off right with a delicious breakfast – the most important meal of the day. That said, might I suggest that you change up the breakfast-in-bed routine by ditching the cliché scrambled eggs and toast opting instead for lighter peach rhubarb smoothie? If your celebrations / family get-togethers are anything like mine, there will be food and drink in spades all day, so cut her some carb slack during this first meal. If you’re feeling especially generous and want to secure your “daughter / son / spouse of the year award” add a glass of champagne to that breakfast tray. You can thank me later. Acai Banana Berry Bowl, Smoothie

I love acai bowls – thick, tasty, creamy, flavor-packed bowls of delicious and nutritious goodness. The endless base flavor combinations and fun toppings give infinite fun to an otherwise annoying meal – breakfast. But, there are things I don’t love about them, including 1) how hard a good acai bowl is to find, 2) the lack of portability / eat-on-the-go-ability, 3) paying $8 a pop, especially when they melt in 10 minutes flat, and 4) waiting 30+ minutes after ordering for mine to be ready. Acai Smoothies ...

Smoothie Workout

One of my favorite things in the world is a great workout. Those times when you honestly aren’t sure how you are still alive and can’t figure out what is keeping your legs in an upright position; you know, when you’re so sweaty it looks like you took a shower with all your clothes on and you know you’re gonna hurt the next day and you can’t wait? You know what I’m talking about?
Smoothie Top

Let's just call this heaven in a glass.
